A SHARED VISION

Grameen Bank: the pioneer in microfinance

Founded in 1983 by Muhammad Yunus, laureate of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize, Grameen Bank (village bank) is known world-wide for its efforts to eradicate global poverty. Through Grameen Trust, Grameen has developed its model in 38 countries so far. Overall, $6bn has been lent to 7 million people.

Crédit Agricole: a commitment to microfinance
Crédit Agricole is involved in exemplary microfinance projects in a broad array of different situations.

In Armenia, in 1995, Crédit Agricole was instrumental in creating the Agricultural Cooperative Bank of Armenia (ACBA Bank), an institution dedicated primarily to financing the needs of small farmers, and has supported its development based on a universal banking model. ACBA, 72% - owned by 700 village associations (40,000 members) is now the leading bank in Armenia.
In Madagascar, ICAR (the International Crédit Agricole & Rural association) which encompasses 7 Crédit Agricole Regional banks, FERT and Crédit Agricole Solidarité Développement supports actively 3 microfinance networks : CECAM (Caisses d’Epargne et le Crédit Agricole Mutuels - 100,000 members), TIAVO and FIVOY.
The FARM Foundation (Fondation pour l’Agriculture et la Ruralité dans le Monde - Foundation for Agriculture and Rural Life in the World - www.fondation-farm.org), which was founded by Crédit Agricole S.A., is a platform for the exchange of best practices and policies concerning agriculture financing in developing countries, particulary through microfinance.
In France, through the Regional Banks ("Passerelle" Programme).

Sustainable development
In 2007, The Banker magazine named Crédit Agricole Global Bank of the Year for its socially and environmentally responsible policies.
